Sad News.Comet C/2024 S1 (ATLAS) did not survive its perihelion with our home star.It got very bright before breaking up and disintegrating. So, no more known comets for the rest of this year.Video is made from images taken by the SOHO (LASCO) cameras. pic.twitter.com/50M4GVN6xp— TClarkIII (@ThomasJClarkIII) October 29, 2024
THE SUN JUST SWALLOWED A COMET: The solar system has one less comet. Comet ATLAS (C/2024 S1) melted away today when it passed within 0.008 AU of the sun. Coronagraphs onboard the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory witnessed the final moments. pic.twitter.com/g2jE7N8VaY
